Soccer Analyst Chris Sutton Takes On Artist Murs in Top Flight Predictions

Arsenal's 10-game victorious streak was ended by Sunderland before the international hiatus, but can the Premier League frontrunners bounce back against local foes Spurs this weekend?

"{I feel like Arsenal are miles ahead of Tottenham currently but Spurs manager Thomas Frank will have a strategy for this game," stated soccer specialist Chris Sutton.

"The Spurs manager will try to nullify Arsenal, who have not always been at their sparkling best this campaign - but Mikel Arteta's side usually still find a way to win."

The analyst is making predictions for all 380 Premier League fixtures this season, against artificial intelligence, readers and a variety of special visitors.

For week 12, he faces singer Olly Murs, who is a United fan.

Murs' latest album, the new release, is available on Friday.

Soccer and Family Life

Olly is a skilled footballer as well as a successful artist and has been a featured player of multiple Soccer Aid games over time - but he is not planning a serious comeback as a player.

"{I recently played in a benefit match the other night for a friend of mine," he said. "My side was losing 3-1 when I was substituted in the second half, and they proceeded to win 4-3, so you can interpret that what you will!

"I still love football, but I injured my knee a few years ago and it still isn't where I want it to be. I wish I could play more but the unpredictability of the game means it's too dangerous for me in my profession to do it properly again.

"Plus I am forty-one now, and we are not all Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very happy not playing football and I am gearing up for the time that my daughter or boy chooses to play instead."

The singer and his wife his partner have two children, Madison and their son, and he is ready to emulate his dad by taking on the role of their coach.

"I won't push football on our children but I've already told my wife that if they do get the passion for it then I will have to go and get my manager qualifications - and I will probably be managing their weekend soccer side," he said.

"I observed my relatives play a lot, and I really got into it, and I clearly was involved with a football club for a while too.

"My father coached with us when I was a child, which is likely where I inherited it. He coached our team for several seasons and had great fun with it. That could be the future for me as well, and I am looking forward to it!"

Premier League Forecasts

Saturday, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea might have to wait a bit longer for Cole Palmer's return from fitness issues but their offense is already more potent with Joao Pedro and Delap both returned to fitness.

In my opinion this game will be fairly tight, however. Burnley are disciplined and their only home losses so far have been against the Reds and Arsenal.

This smells of a 1-1 draw to me, but I am actually going to choose Chelsea to win narrowly for what would be their third consecutive Premier League win in a row.

The expert's prediction: 1-2

The singer's prediction: Chelsea will be too strong. 1-3

AI's outlook: 0-2

  • Vitality Stadium, 15:00 GMT

The Cherries have lost their previous couple matches - although both of them were away - but they got thoroughly beaten by Villa last time out which surprised me.

In contrast, the Hammers secured back-to-back victories before the hiatus and, although both of those games were at their stadium, they do look strong again.

West Ham's only on the road victory this season came at Forest in the summer, when their boss Nuno Espirito Santo was still Forest manager.

So, what on earth do I predict here - can the Hammers extending their streak under their manager, or Bournemouth responding?

I will choose the Cherries, because I think what happened against Villa was a anomaly.

The pundit's forecast: 2-0

Olly's outlook: Bournemouth are doing well but West Ham have picked up under Nuno. 2-2

The algorithm's pick: 1-1

  • Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT

The Bees were seen as one of the frontrunners for the drop before the season began, but they have impressed a several people under Keith Andrews and are in fine fettle with three in their last four matches.

A family member told me to select Bees forward Igor Thiago in my fantasy soccer squad a few weeks back and, guess what, I ignored the advice.

Thiago will probably find the net again on Saturday but I am nonetheless not going to pick him or support Brentford at Amex Stadium.

They have not had much success on the road this term, and Brighton are always decent at their stadium. Brentford will try to attack on the break but I feel Fabian Hurzeler's side carry much more of a danger.

The analyst's forecast: 2-1

The singer's prediction: This could be one of those games where you think there is going to be a lot of scores but it in reality turns out to be quite tight. 1-1

AI's outcome: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

This is a huge fixture for the Cottagers, who have lost five of their past six games.

They have have plenty of quality in their team but it nonetheless feels like they could be dragged into a drop zone fight.

As for Sunderland, well they are the surprise package of the top flight campaign so far.

Their display in the 2-2 tie with Arsenal last time out was excellent. We have not seen anyone else disrupt the North London side like that this term, and they were fully competitive for them.

The logical choice to do to support the visitors here, because they are clearly able of disrupting Fulham up too and, the last time they were in west London, they defeated the Blues at the end of last month.

But I am not going to do that. Rather, I really need to continue opposing the away team with my predictions. I am taking a lot of credit for their positive results because they clearly love to defy my predictions.

Considering Fulham's home form, the sole side they have lost to is Arsenal. Their manager's team will be absolutely eager for a good result, so I am going to say they will pick up three much-needed points.

The expert's prediction: 1-0

The guest's choice: I know the visitors are performing strongly and also that Fulham are on a bad streak... but Fulham have nonetheless been decent at Craven Cottage this campaign. 2-0

AI's outlook: 2-0

  • Anfield, 15:00 GMT

This is a tough one to predict. Liverpool have lost seven of their past 10 games in all competitions, but might they be one of the teams who benefit from the {international break|
