Alphabet, Google's holding company the Alphabet conglomerate plans to commit $15bn for constructing an AI data hub in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

The facility, that is planned in the harbor town of Visakhapatnam, will become a part of Google's international system of artificial intelligence hubs spread across a dozen nations.

"It's the largest AI hub that we are going to be investing in across the globe, outside of the US," the CEO of Google Cloud said at an conference in capital Delhi this Tuesday, mentioning that the investment will be allocated throughout the next half-decade.

This declaration occurs when President Trump of the United States has been urging American companies to focus on local funding.

The Expanding Position of India in Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure

India has risen as a major hub for AI data centres. The country's low data costs and rapidly growing online population have turned it into a center for expansion of cloud and artificial intelligence for technology leaders.

"The infrastructure will deliver our industry-leading technology to companies and individuals in the nation, enhancing AI development and driving growth across the country," said Alphabet's chief executive Sundar Pichai.

The venture is part of the Andhra Pradesh government's plan to establish 6 gigawatts of computing facility capacity by the year 2029.

Data centers are tangible infrastructures that accommodate the computing and networking equipment that entities use to collect, process, store, and distribute data.

These include servers, storage systems and network equipment like firewalls and routers, along with the essential electricity and temperature control systems to run them.

The country's computing facility market has developed swiftly over the past five years, exceeding the 1GW capability milestone in 2024 and approximately tripling its 2019 level.
