England to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will embark on their Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they achieve the relatively straightforward passage for a championship hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not staged an England men’s fixture since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is expected to stage the England side for their first match on June 10, 2028.

The team are set to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the knockouts at Everton’s ground.

Championship Opening and Protest

The championship was launched at an ceremony in central London on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from European football’s governing body and the organizing bodies were confronted as they arrived the site by approximately 50 protesters, who called for the Israeli team to be expelled from global football because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were displayed with messages saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The inaugural fixture of the tournament will be held at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a match that will include Wales if they secure a place.

Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at late afternoon.

It is expected that an afternoon start, which will also be used for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to households and help connect with a more diverse set of viewers.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their first game at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

Each host nation’s squad will take part in the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that miss out on the finals through the qualification path.

Locations and Playoffs

The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground round out the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight held at the national stadium of each host.

The qualification draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a host city last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.

Official Statement

“This will be a championship for the followers and a celebration of everything we love about the sport – its emotion and ability to unite individuals.”

In excess of three million tickets, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are projected to be offered to supporters.
