Area Police
Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking official commented the incident left him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
