A Mountain of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays present a multitude of activities much better than scanning the latest news: discovering surprises, indulging in holiday treats, and employing deep breathing to avoid arguing with family members. Hopefully you managed to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting announcements came out over the holidays, and should you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the notorious disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop further production. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the promotional image for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, at this point, they must be trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series showed it maintained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now everyone is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will very likely air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
